Reiko Shimokawa, nee Nakatsukasa is a recipient of numerous awards including 2nd prize at the 8th Pacific Piano competition (2002) and Musical Activity Award from Yamaha Music Foundation in Japan (2001).Her appearances in Vancouver include DEBUT series at CBC Radio 2 in 2001 and Duo with flutist Chieko Konish Louie as well as Trio Con Spirito with Violinist Toru Tagawa. She has performed Schumann concerto with the Budapest Concert Orchestra in Hungary (1999) and has extensively performed in England while she gained her initial trainings at Royal College of Music, Trinity College of Music and Guildhall school of Music and Drama. She has participated many international music courses throughout Europe studying with renowned teachers including David Dolan, Philip Fowke, Ronan Magill, Hiroko Mukunoki, Lee Kum-Sing,Noriko Ogura, Alan Rowlands, Paul Roberts, Haruko Ueda, and Yu Chang Yee. Her 2 CDs has been released in Japan, entitled ÒIn earth Õs many colored dream Ó and ÒTunes of Clowns.
She completed her Diploma in Music Performance course at UBC under the guidance of Dr. Sara Davis Buechner for piano and Doreen Oke for harpsichord in 2004. She taught in Oakridge Music Studio in Vancouver for a year before she returned to Japan in 2006. She is very active collaborating with other artists including Bariton Sax player, Koutarou Asano whom she formed Schoenbergers(2009) using 12 tone series, and Japanese traditional comic story teller Rakugo-ka, Emimaru Hayashiya (2005-2007) for Rakugo and classical music collaborations. Currently, she resides in Tokyo and being a piano instructor at Music Academy Tokyo. She is inviting Prof.Bruce Vogt whom she studied with at University of Victoria during her Masters degree for his open masterclass and the concert in February 2010.
